My first turkey

I made my first turkey today. It turned out fairly well I think. Both of the cats liked it.

Tomorrow needs to be a cleaning day. I have TONS to do.

Christmas Day

We all got stockings on Christmas day! Chance and Gracie got a can of tuna and can of condensed milk and lots of balls and toy mice and some treats.

I got a game for my ds, perfume, stuff to do my fingernails with, chocolate covered pecans, air freshners for the car, a big candy bar, etc.

That ball Gracie is playing with is her favorite. They had a green one like that but it no longer has the metallic strands on it at all.

Gracie likes spaghetti!!!!!!

I guess I shouldn't be surprised anymore. She acts more like a dog than a cat when it comes to eating. She hasn't refused too many things I have offered her. I figured she would eat the meat out of the spaghetti but she was eating the noodles too!

Speed limit sign

I must have seen this sign before as I have been to Opry Mills Mall before but Mary pointed it out to me this time. I don't EVER remember seeing a 24 speed limit sign. Mary said it is probably so they can give out more tickets for going 30. She said cops typically won't give you a ticket for going 5 miles or less over the speed limit.

ICE

On Sunday, December 21st my friend Mary picked me up around 9:30 and we headed off to Nashville. We decided to do ICE first and then eat lunch. I really enjoyed that. It was definitely worth seeing. The colored ice didn't look like ice to me but it was.

We enjoyed lunch at Macaroni Grill and then headed off to the Summit Center where we were going to see the Trans-Siberian orchestra. I really enjoyed that as well and it was about a three hour show! They didn't allow picture taking during the show and even said they wouldn't let you in the door if you had a camera with you - to take it back to your car. We got there right as it was supposed to start and both had our cameras on us and we had walked an awful long way but we managed to hide them and got in the door. I felt like a criminal for sneaking it in but neither of us took any pictures even though we saw tons of camera flashes thru the concert. A guy two rows in front of us kept taking pictures with his cell phone even though he got caught and was told he couldn't take pictures.

After the show we headed back over to Opry Mills Mall and had some snacks at the Rainforest Cafe. We were both disappointed a bit because the items we wanted they no longer had on the menu. I was looking forward to a banana cheesecake they used to have that was to die for. Mary was looking for a salmon dish I think. We wound up each getting a smoothie, splitting an appetizer, and then we shared a bananas foster dessert which was HUGE and very good.

My family Christmas

My brother and his family and I had our Christmas with our parents on Saturday, Dec 20th. The big hits for the kids were remote control cars for the boys and the wii that my parents and I got David's family. The look on Cora's face when they opened the gift was priceless. A sports pack comes with the wii and then we also got them mariokart for the wii. It is a pretty cool game and very popular this year. I went several places to get one for me and they were completely sold out!

David went out to get BBQ for our Christmas dinner.

I got a tom tom GPS from my parents and David got me a gift card to lowe's or home depot with the idea that I would buy paint stuff with it and he would help me paint some in the house.

David and I got mom a really nice TV for her new kitchen and we got Dad a tool box for the truck.

After my parents left, Cora and I came back to my place and both kitties did pretty well with her. Chance was traumatized when the rest of the kids came with David about an hour later. David wanted to watch the Dallas game so they stayed until almost 11pm! Had to be up by 7am Sunday for that day's adventures. Stay tuned.....

Wrapping gifts is much harder now...........

I dumped a bunch of webkinz in the floor to decide which one I was giving to which kid and Gracie decided hers was the lion and she thought she could take him!

Chance attacking Gracie who is attacking the lion.

I am not a very good gift wrapper at all. Looks like a kindergarten job usually! Now with two kitties on the loose it is even harder. They kept trying to get inside the paper as I was wrapping.

Orange Cranberry Loaf Cake Cookies

All I can say about these is YUMMY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I found them at kroger and even the kitties liked them!

Christmas kitty!!!!!!!!!!

I found this cute little santa hat at petsmart. I don't think Chance liked it very much!

Life is crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!

Last weekend was another busy one. I had to take both kitties to the vet on Friday and run an errand and then hurry back to the house to get as much cleaning done as possible before my parents arrived around 3pm.

We went to dinner at Carrabba's that night and it was good but it tore my stomach up big time. I think it must be the spices they put in the oil you dip the bread in because today I went to lunch with Tweety bird there and had the exact same thing except I didn't eat very much of the dipping stuff this time and I did have a different salad also but only because someone dropped the house dressing and it must sit for 24 hours after they make it our waiter said so they didn't have any of that. I used to really like the italian salad and dressing too but either it just wasn't good today or I don't like it that much anymore.

Saturday my parents and I went to see the Rockettes in Birmingham. Their Christmas show is really good. I had never seen them before. We were up in the nose bleed section but it wasn't too bad.

Sunday we were all heathens and slept in instead of going to church. They left around noon to head home and I just kind of vegged out for the rest of the day for the most part. I did manage to dig one box of winter clothes out of the garage and start some laundry.

Tonight I went shopping after work and spent way too much money! Maybe tomorrow night I can get my Christmas cards done or mostly done I hope.

Good post

Vet visit

Today Chance and Gracie both went to the vet for their last round of shots. YEAH!!!

Chance weighs a whopping 5 lbs now! The leg is doing fairly well and we have decided not to do anything else to it for now. No more splints and no surgery for now.

Gracie weighed in at 3.4 pounds. She was up 1 pound exactly from the last visit. She doesn't really feel like she weighs that much though.

The tech got their temps and weighed them and stuff and then it was a little bit before Dr. White came in. They both went back in their crate and they HATE that thing. They were done though. They were ready to go back home.

They are both scheduled for their spay/neuter surgeries on the 29th of December. They would likely have gorgeous kittens but I don't want to pass along Chance's birth defects. Plus it might be hard to get rid of some of the kittens with there being such a surplus of cats around here that nobody wants.

Fingernails & Dirty Santa

I got my fingernails done today! I was going to get a green color but it wasn't what I thought it was. I didn't like it when she showed me what it would look like. So, I went with the red that is on my toes. If you double click on the picture you can tell what is on my thumb a little better.

Today was our division Christmas party. We went to Beauregard's and the bosses paid for all of our meals! That was a nice surprise. We played dirty santa and I wound up with a pair of ear muffs. I wanted to steal the alabama shirt but it had already been stolen 3 times and that is our limit. Then I thought I would get the mannheim steamroller cd that I brought but it got stolen for the third time before it was my turn. :( Nobody else wanted the ear muffs but there wasn't really anything else that I wanted either. One poor guy wound up with some auburn flip flops and a little auburn football and he is an alabama fan. Rickey who was running things wouldn't let anyone take it from him as he was determined that was a great gag gift for an alabama fan and he needed to go home with that.

Then I had dinner out at Logan's after getting my nails done. I discovered that I do like cheese fries with ranch dressing. I would not have thought I would like those.

Weekend adventures

This past weekend Tomkat, Shades and I were supposed to go to Medieval times in Atlanta. Shades suggested that we also shoot on up to Pigeon Forge and see the Christmas show of the Dixie Stampede. Tomkat and I had already discussed it and thought it might be too much but then after Shades suggested it we decided to go for it. Well, when Tomkat told Shades that we were going she didn't seem real happy about it. Well, a day or so went by and she called the Tomkat to say that she was sick and would not be able to join us. (actually she was mad but that is another story) I told Tomkat to ask his youngest - childling #3 if she would like to join us. She said yes and was very excited.

I got up Saturday and headed out to Woodville to Tomkat's house. Tomkat walked out of the house and locked the door and shut it and then realized his keys were not in his coat pocket like he thought. Luckily he had everything he needed with him so we just jumped in my car and picked up K. We stopped for a bite to eat in Scottsboro after picking up his childling and then we were off to Atlanta.

Atlanta drivers are INSANE. We were in our own lane minding our own business when some moron decided he wasn't missing his turn even though he had to move two lanes of traffic out of his way but he didn't mind honking at us to tell us to stop and stay out of his way. That happened to be our turn too and we missed it. We got turned around and finally found the castle where medieval times was. The entrance to it is actually in the mall there.

We wandered around the gift shop and found lots of expensive stuff we would like before they let us go in to be seated. It turned out to be a pretty good show and afterwards we waited while Tomkat secured a Christmas gift for his son-in-law.

Then we were off to head towards Pigeon Forge. We got maybe half way there before we decided we needed to stop for the night. The next morning we got up and got ready and headed out for pigeon forge. We got there a little less than an hour before the show and watched the pre-show and then went in for the stampede. We enjoyed this show as well. Tomkat and I liked it the best and K liked Medieval Times the best.

We were going to hit the scrapbook store but it was closed. :(
So, we headed back home. Tomkat had to call Shades on the way home to see if he could stop by her place to get his spare key so he could get into his house. She didn't seem real happy but said okay.

We dropped K off and then headed to H'ville to see Shades. She was definitely not a happy camper when we got there. She came out the door handed ME Tomkat's keys and turned around and hussled back in the house. I think the only thing she said was "here" when she handed the keys over. Tomkat and I just looked at each other and said "Whoa". We thought we were lucky she didn't come out with her gun the way she was acting.

That was my adventurous weekend. We had fun in spite of almost getting run off the road in Atlanta and meeting up with Shades when we got back.

I've been watching some things unfold between Tomkat and Shades and there are definitely lessons to be learned there. It has been said that what you fear you create and I can see that what Shades fears is exactly what she is going to create.

Why I don't wear skirts/dresses

Monday I met the Tomkat at Carrabba's for lunch. When we were getting ready to leave I realized I needed to make a pit stop at the restroom as I felt pretty certain I would not make it back to work. When I was walking back thru the restaurant to leave I realized I had a problem. I debated on what I should do. Go back to the restroom and fix the problem or just keep on going??? Hmmm. I opted to just keep going since it was cold and I had a coat on so I figured nobody would notice my little problem. When I got out to the car I made some adjustments to get my undies back in their proper position. Yes, I would have lost them completely had I not had pants on! After that I went to Walmart to get some ibuprofen which I badly needed at this point and was not too far into Walmart when I realized I had a problem yet AGAIN!!! By this time I was sportin a tude!!!!!!!!!!!

So see, that is why I just cannot wear a skirt or a dress cuz stuff just happens sometimes!

I tried something new!

To celebrate the first of the month, I went to Carrabba's for lunch today. I actually got something different this time! I got the pasta carrabba and it was pretty good. I still like what I always get the best though.

I ordered some photo cards today too. This is the first year I have ever done a photo card for Christmas cards.

Thanksgiving was good. My parents were not able to come up due to having to get their kitchen window properly installed. Dad was in the process of doing that when he cut his thumb so they came back and sealed it up the best they could after his emergency room visit. They have been working on the kitchen about a year now so hopefully they can get it finished up before too much longer. I know they still need counter tops and flooring and probably a few other things.

I went and had Thanksgiving with several single friends this year which is different than what I usually do. We had a good day hanging out, talking, playing with two kittens, and watching a movie. When it got dark we went to see the lights at the botanical gardens. We saw several things this year that none of us remembered seeing last year. We talked about going on one of the walk thru nights next year. I think that would be fun and maybe we could even get a decent picture or two.

I also shared an early Thanksgiving meal with a friend and her family this year. I am especially thankful for the people that I shared Thanksgiving meals with this year as well for the other ones that extended invitations to me.

Events of the day

Tried out a restaurant for lunch today that I either have never been to or only went to once many years ago. I went to Beauregard's. I would go again. I especially liked the fried pickles.

I saw the young lady today that stole packages off my porch when I lived in the apartment in Madison! I never thought I would see her again but hopefully she is staying out of trouble now. I'm not sure she acted alone but she was the only minor involved so she took the blame for everything knowing that even if I pressed charges she wouldn't get in too much trouble. I chose not to press charges and what she still had she returned and what she didn't she paid for.

Spent lots of money today at walmart and Lifeway and petsmart. I just got food at petsmart and just needed items at walmart and well, lifeway............

Oh, I also went to gamestop and got a game for the wii that may go to D&T and family to go with their new wii my parents and I got them for Christmas.

Got my vehicle registration renewed on the arsenal today. I was reminded when I went in the gate after lunch that Monday is Dec 1st and it expired the end of this month and of course the badging office is closed on Friday of this week as well. This caught lots of people unawares I guess according to the badging office. It was standing room only when I got there. Luckily I had a book in the car to keep me occupied while I waited.

Kept messing with a sore spot under my nose and it started bleeding and I thought it might NEVER stop. Thankfully it finally did though.

Newsflash

I can't wait to have some lunches at Carrabba's over the next month. Maybe I will even try some new things??? Don't hold your breath though!

YUCK, MEDS!!!!!!!!!!

My kitties do NOT like Benadryl! Chance gags and Gracie foams at the mouth. It is a good thing I read on the internet that Benadryl reacts with the cat's saliva and can cause them to foam at the mouth or I would have been flipping out. Gracie didn't seem to like that experience at all. I thought it was rather amusing since I was prepared for it.

On Purpose for a Purpose

I just started an online bible study with Shelley Hendrix called On Purpose for a Purpose at www.atlantaencounter.blogspot.com. It is a study on Esther.

In her introduction online she talks about how she believes that each of us are here "for such a time as this". We are here at this time on purpose for a purpose. All that is true about us and all that has happened in our lives both good and bad God allowed on purpose for a purpose. I guess I had never thought about it in those terms before.

On Purpose for a purpose. Hmmmm. I'm just trying to let that sink in.

Chance & Gracie update

I took both kitties to the vet today and that actually went fairly well with them both there. I took them in the crate though as I don't think I could hold on to them both at the same time without one or both escaping.

They both got shots. Gracie meowed like it hurt but Chance just took it.

They did NOT hear a heart murmer in Gracie this time so hopefully that was just a fluke thing and she doesn't actually have one.

Gracie weighed 2.4 pounds and Chance weighs 3.4 pounds.

I mentioned the sneezing Gracie does and Chance sneezes or coughs some too and she told me to give them benadryl and how much so I will pick up some of that tomorrow and see if that helps any.

They didn't change Chance's splint but I have all the stuff to do it and actually put this last splint on so I took it off when we got home and it is still off right now. I am not sure what is best - to put it back on or leave it off. It seems to be growing some and maybe slightly stronger since he got this different splint where the paw sticks out of it. It is kind of a catch 22 situation as far as leaving the splint on and taking it off.

I saw Dr. Johnson again today and saw Dr. White on the way out. He asked about Chance and I mentioned the surgery Dr. Johnson told me about and he commented that yes, there were some other things we could do so maybe I will try to see him the next time we are there if he is there. I don't want to put Chance thru a ton of stuff but it may be worth it to put a pin/plate in there to stabilize the foot a little better. I have some time to think about all that though since we can't do that until the growth plate closes up which will probably be several months down the road.

Unless they have problems before then, I do not have another appointment until we go back for shots in three weeks! YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!! And, my next appointment is on a Friday morning so maybe I can get back to the water aerobics on Monday nights.

November scrapbook challenge

I got three pages out of the stuff in our November challenge kit! I still need a soccer ball brad that a friend has for one of the pages but they are basically done.

I was supposed to get my oil changed today and get allergy shots but I haven't felt super well today so I decided I would just stay home and rest/relax until time to go out for the crop tonight. I have been extra tired for some reason lately.

1st place

Cora's team got first place in the soccer tournament today. It was a very close game today and actually went into overtime! It was a good bit cooler outside today than it was yesterday and the other kids were freezing. They had on two jackets each but didn't have hats or gloves or anything. Mom, Dad, and I wound up each having one in our laps to try to keep a little warmer. I had Emma this time which surprised me. Ridgey is Gramma's boy so she had him of course and Dad had Colin. Mom, Dad, and I went to Arby's after the game and then they they headed back to Ozark and I headed to Kroger and then home.

I think I am going to get to stay home for the next two days. I hope to get a bit more cleaning done which I have been SO far behind on as well as some reading and my scrapbook challenge for Friday.

Cora's soccer tournament

My oldest niece plays AYSO soccer and she had a tournament today. They played two games in Cullman and won them both so she has another game tomorrow. I think that is the last game regardless of whether they win or lose. They played really well today - even Cora and she wasn't feeling too good.

The boys were "falling" over backwards in their chairs and thought that was so much fun. Ridge would hold onto Gramma and Colin would hold on to me while they pushed themselves over backwards.

CHOCOLATE TIME!!!!!! Gramma ALWAYS visits with chocolate of some sort and the kids love it of course.

Colin was trying to show me the candy in his mouth but I never got a good shot of it. (I'll have to admit I was sneaking him candy today)He also got $5 for finding Gramma's lost earring!

The kids are growing like crazy. I noticed that Emma seemed to be getting really tall and Ridgey has grown a good bit too. It is not too easy to pick him up anymore.

Gracie update

Yes, the black kitty now has a name! Gracie seems to fit her somehow.

The vet thinks she has internal parasites even though none were detected in her stool. She is on a liquid dewormer for five days, an antibiotic liquid for 14 days, some probiotic stuff you sprinkle on their food and special food until her stool improves. The special food will probably be the biggest challenge since I will have to be careful to remember to pick up Chance's food so she can't get to it for awhile. The special food they gave me is canned so not sure what I will do about leaving them tomorrow...if I will just leave them both put up or just not leave any hard food out??? I don't think Chance really eats too much typically while I am gone anyway, but......

She has gained 0.4 pounds since she last went to the vet last Monday so that is good. She weighs 1.8 pounds now.

Chance update

Chance saw Dr. White yesterday and he put the splint back on. He felt some curvature of the bone this time with the splint being off several days. We're going to do this for a few weeks and see how he does. He doesn't have full support in the splint but enough to allow him to use it more than he could with the full splint. His leg may be as good as it is going to get at this point. I just hope it doesn't revert back to the way it was to begin with. It did develop a little bit more of a curve while the splint was off but he still walked on it like he is supposed to. He gained 0.4 pounds since last week and is up to 2.6 pounds now.

He did pretty well at the vet this time. He still gets scared but this time he walked around on the table and sniffed everything and even played with the tech some! Usually he acts pretty spooked the whole time so I'm glad he seemed a bit mroe relaxed this time. The techs were fighting over who got to call him back! I am glad they like him there and shower him with love and attention.

He continues to act like he feels good and is pretty active these days so hopefully whatever was wrong was just a virus or something that made him so lethargic several weeks ago.

Her white spots

I forgot to upload a picture showing her white spots. She has a little place under her chin that is white also and stray hairs throughout her coat that are white as well. She is a pretty cat.

Various kitty photos

I love this picture! Yes, I gave her a bath. I didn't like how she smelled when I got her home. She still gets pretty stinky though! I am changing her diet to see if that helps any.

They almost look like they like each other here! It took some doing to get a decent shot of them together where they were not fighting.

I love this picture too. He and I were playing when I took this one. This was before the new kitty came along.

Chance was actually grooming the new kitty today! Of course that didn't last too long before he was biting her instead. It seems like they are having fun together even though it seems they play pretty rough sometimes - especially Chance. And I was worried about him getting bullied but it seems he is more of the bully.

Relatively straight

I took these pictures this morning after Chance got the splint off. The vet I saw this morning refused to put it back on. He thought it was more detrimental to him at this point than it was helpful. He was a jerk and unprofessional in how he handled things in my opinion. I will not see him again. I have an appointment Monday afternoon to see Dr. White who put the splint on to begin with. If it seems to go downhill between now and in the morning I will see if I can see Dr. White tomorrow. Dr. Nelson said it couldn't get any worse when I asked what if it gets worse. He can put his paw down on his pads like he is supposed to now and he could not before so I do feel that there has been an improvement. There isn't much muscle tone in that lower part of his leg/foot but there wasn't much to begin with anyway since he wasn't using it. He lifts that leg up a lot more now with the splint off but hopefully he will use it more and things will improve rather than go back the other way. I guess we will see what Dr. White has to say tomorrow/Monday and go from there. I think we just need to stick with Dr. White as it gets very frustrated to deal with multiple doctors and their differing opinions.

I spoke too soon!

Yesterday I was telling someone that I was surprised that Chance had not yet gotten the splints off of his leg. Well..........now he has. I noticed it looked like it was slipping down his leg some this morning but wasn't sure but then a little while later it was quite obvious that it had slipped even further down. So, I put him in my bathroom to keep him from running around on it anymore and making it worse and called the vet to see about getting him in to re-bandage him. When I went back in the bathroom to check on him I found the splint off and him madly trying to clean that leg. It looks like they are right and the leg is not growing. I haven't looked at it up close yet though since he was busy with it. When I left the bathroom to call work to say I'd be late I found the other kitty sitting in my chair at the computer. I guess that means I spend too much time here since she seemed to know where I would show back up soon.

The fighting begins

They started fighting more this morning. Chance would jump on top of her and bite her tummy and stuff. She kept coming back for more though!
